Rant about MakeupAlley

Oh my goodness! Sometimes I really wish I could reach out and slap some of the women who swap on MakeupAlley. I mean the ones who think that MAC cosmetics is "God's Gift" to cosmetics. If people really believe that, then they are missing out on a lot of great cosmetics out there from low end to high end. Don't get me wrong...MAC is probably my favorite brand, however, I am not a makeup snob at all. I have a little bit of everything in my collection.

Anyway, the point of this post it to vent about something that just happened on MakeupAlley. So, I recently received a request from another MUA'er to swap for my Brand New Revlon Colorstay Foundation. Keep in mind that my foundation has never been used, tested, or opened. I bought it over the summer, but now that I am back to being pale, I just don't need it.

I looked over the girl's list and there were a couple lower end products and the rest were all MAC. The only item that I was interested in was a MAC mini 228 brush that.....check this out....was received in a swap...handle has slight wear and the letters are starting to wear off.

I respond to the girl's request and ask if we could swap for the MAC mini 228 brush. She then responds to my request and tells me that swapping a Revlon foundation for a MAC brush does not sound fair to her.

Are you kidding me? I respond back to her to let her know that yes, I do think the swap is fair considering that my foundation is brand new; cost me $12 and her brush is not full size, is used and is not in perfect condition. I haven't received a response, but at this point, it doesn't matter. I just wanted her to know what I thought.

I am curious about this topic now. I know no one reads this blog, but if you ever come across this entry, I would love it if you would share your thoughts. I am curious!

  1. I totally agree with you, it's a fair swap. In fact, you can never go wrong with a swap since you are giving something that you are not using anyway, so whatever you get for it in return can only turn out for the better.

I think that was a more than fair swap.

  3. Hey Jackee~!

I found your blog via the MakeupGeek weekly entry for red/black.....that I found via Jangsara's makeup blog- wow! Talk about the 8 degrees of makeup, ha ha.

I think MAC is overrated. Don't get me wrong, I see it allll over the place and yes, have my MAC pro card and all that. BUT I own maybe 3 MAC items. I've worked on films, commercials, etc and I just don't have a lot of MAC.

So, that said- (I use Ben Nye and MUFE the most and a ton of Aromaleigh) I think your swap was generous. A used brush vs a new foundation? Ugh, no.

I don't swap because I don't like the idea- but I think your call wasd good. Eh, her loss.
