A Dog's Purpose??

A friend of mine sent this e-mail to me this morning and it brought tears to my eyes because the message is so true.  I know this is not beauty related, but I wanted to share with you all.

A Dog's Purpose? (from a 6-year-old).

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker 's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ''I know why.''

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.

He said,''People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?''

The Six-year-old continued,''Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.''

Live simply.

Love generously.

Care deeply.

Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

  • When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
  • Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
  • Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
  • Take naps.
  • Stretch before rising.
  • Run, romp, and play daily.
  • Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
  • Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
  • On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
  • On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
  • When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
  • Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
  • Be loyal.
  • Never pretend to be something you're not.
  • If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
  • When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

I have such a love for animals, especially dogs.  I treat mine like they are my kids, so they are pretty spoiled.  Here are some pics of my girls.  They are both rescue dogs and we've had them since they were puppies!  They are 5 now.  These are old pics...from 2005.  All of my recent pics are on my home computer and I am at work right now being a slacker!  HA!

OH EM GEE...my hair!  Like I said, this was a long time ago!  That's my Terrier Mix Dixie!  I love my Bearded Lady!!

Here is my other Furry Baby, Mikela. We're not sure what breed she is.  We're thinking a Puggle, maybe?  She's our mystery boo boo!!

FOTD and Review- Sweet Libertine Mineral Cosmetics

Hi ladies!  Hope you're all having a good weekend!  So far so good here.  I am just hanging out at home and playing with makeup!  What more could a girl ask for?

As I mentioned in My Pretty Pink Box post, some of the items I received are a couple of samples from Sweet Libertine Mineral Cosmetics.  I had never heard of the company prior to receiving the samples, so today I decided to do a look using the two samples I received.  Here is what I came up with and I hope you like it.

Let me just say that I hate my camera and hope I can get one with an HD feature in the near future.  These pictures do not do the eyeshadow colors any justice.  How frustrating!  ERRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!

Face

-Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer - Medium
-Makeup Forever Mat Velvet Foundation
-Palladio Rice Powder in Warm Beige
-Cinema Secrets Blush - Adode

Eyes

-Maybelline Define A Brow Pencil
-Too Faced Shadow Insurance - lid up to brow bone
-Sweet Libertine Mineral Shadow in Filigree (Swatch Below) - Lid

-Sweet Libertine Mineral Shadow in Neptune (Swatch Below) - Inner Crease and lower lashline

-MAC Soft Brown - crease
-MAC Romp - outer crease
-MAC Chamomile - Highlight
-L'oreal Lineur Intense liquid eyeliner in Carbon Black
-Rimmel Soft Kohl Pencil - Jungle Green - water line and lower lashline
-Rimmel The Max Volume Flash Mascara in Extreme Black

Lips

-Makeup Forever Mat-Matt #501
-Flossie Diamond Cosmetics lipliner - Spice
-MAC Dazzleglass - Baby Sparks

My Thoughts on the Sweet Libertine Mineral Shadows:

I really like the shadows I tried.  They are easy to work with, easy to blend and the colors are super pretty and pigmented. Since these are mineral shadows, you definitely need a sticky base so that the shadows have something to stick to.  Anyway, I've been wearing the shadows all day and they have stayed put!

The only downside to these particular colors is that they are both very shimmery and there was quite a bit of shimmer fall out during application.  It's nothing that a clean kabuki can't fix though.

In case you're wondering about the ingredients, they are:

For Filigree:  Mica, Iron Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate. This eyeshadow is vegan.
For Neptune:  Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, Tin Oxide, Magnesium Stearate. This eyeshadow is vegan.

I went on the Sweet Libertine website and found that for a full sized 5 gram jar (it appears to be a 5 gram jar - there is no confirmation on the site that I could find) is only $5.  That is a great deal!  Aside from the mineral shadows, the company also sells Glitter Shadows, Blush and Bronzers, Empty Palettes, Concealers, Gift Sets,  and Brushes.

One great program that the company offers is the Free Sample Program.  Click on the link to find out more.

Overall, I am happy with the samples I received and will more than likely be placing an order for full size products in the near future.  Hope you guys check out Sweet Libertine when you have some time.

Talk to you soon!

My Pretty Pink Box

Hi guys. I wanted to share what I got in the mail last week. My Pretty Pink Box full of goodies!!! Well, really, the box was BLUE, but that's okay. It was still pretty and was still full of goodies. HA!! Oh, and I purchased this box myself. The total cost was $12.99 and here is what I received:

I thought it was supposed to be pink?

Here are all the goodies!

Mineral Eyeshadow Samples from TheBodyNeeds2.com
Full Size Jesse's Girl Eyeshadow

Mineral Eyeshadow Samples from Sweet Libertine Cosmetics
Skincare Samples from DermaPro Skin Care
Scent Sample from Cherry City
Acne Buster Sample from Dr. Dima's Cosminology
In case you're wondering...So what is My Pretty Pink Box?

Directly from the website...Pretty Pink Box:

My Pretty Pink Box is a pretty, little box filled with beauty samples! This gives shoppers a chance to try girly products from a number of wonderful companies. Enjoy samples, products, and special discounts from our awesome retailers and e-tailers! Each box contains handpicked beauty items from both up & coming and well known brands. Plus, it is a great way to spoil yourself rotten - Pamper yourself, you deserve it!

Not only will you receive great samples, but we are determined to provide at least 1 to 2 full size products each month. Many times, each box has more! Nothing is better than full size products at sample pricing!

My Pretty Pink Box varies in pricing from month to month, and will be announced a few days before each release. Why does it vary? Because monthly contents vary. Each month, different retailers will contribute to the box causing the flux in pricing. It's not fair to charge you the same price per month when the contents of one box can be greater than the contents of another. We want you to be happy and will charge accordingly.

The retailers/e-tailers will be announced prior to the boxes' release.

I think this concept is excellent and I am so excited that I learned about  My Pretty Pink Box.  I've known about them for quite some time, but finally purchased a box this month.  Going forward I will be purchasing a box each month.  It's the perfect opportunity to test out some new products at a reasonable price.

I am so excited to play with my goodies!  Please let me know if there is anything you'd like me to review.  I will more than likely use the mineral shadows for an FOTD this weekend.

Hope you all eheck out My Pretty Pink Box sometime...

R.I.P. Sophie Lancaster

Many of you may already be aware of Sophie Lancaster's story.  If not, please read the story below directly from the Illamasqua website and please watch the video and post to your blog as well so we can continue to raise awareness and STOP the hatred!

I remember hearing about this sometime last year when watching one of Pixiwoo's videos on youtube.  It brought me to tears.  How could this happen?  It just doesn't make sense.

On 24th August 2007, Sophie Lancaster was kicked to death, simply for dressing differently.

As a brand that promotes the right to experiment and self-express, three years after her death Illamasqua remains committed to changing attitudes towards subcultures, and continues to work with The Sophie Lancaster Foundation in the fight for universal acceptance, free from prejudice.

Honour Sophie’s memory today and watch the ‘Dark Angel’ tribute film. So far we have reached 162,000 hits, but we’re hoping to reach over 500,000, so please forward the link to friends and family and help us spread the message.

Alternatively buy an Illamasqua Sophie Pencil, wristband or make a donation, and help The Sophie Lancaster Foundation continue its work. £3 from every Sophie Pencil purchased, and all proceeds from the wristband sales go directly to the Foundation.

Deals of the Day

Hey ladies!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  I was going to post some looks, but ended up going to a water park with my family and well...there was no makeup involved in that.  HA!  We all had a great time!

I hadn't been on a water slide in years, so it was a lot of fun to do that with my two oldest kids.  My youngest son just hung out in the toddler pool area.  My husband and I took turns riding the slides and watching Christian.

Anyway, I wanted to share a couple of good deals that I received e-mails about.  The first one is at CherryCulture.  They are having a great back to school sale and the entire site is 20% off.  Yup, you get 20% off your entire purchase.  The promotional code is B2S20Sorry for the late notice, but the sale ends tomorrow, August 24th.

The next great deal is at HauteLook.  They are having a Stila sale.  All of the items are discounted between 55% and 70%.  I would have purchased one of each thing, but unfortunately I can't!  LOL!  Back to School for the kids has left me broke!

Hope you guys can take advantage of the sales!!  Talk to you soon.

New Kids on the Block Cruise - May 2011

I know this is totally not beauty related, but oh well.  I have to share with you guys anyway!

Oh my goodness.  I am going on a cruise to the Bahamas with New Kids on the Block in May 2011!!!! Well, not just the band and me....I have to share the man band with about 2,000 other fans, but OMG!  I am so excited!  Yes, I am a total dork!

Just so you know...getting on this cruise can be really difficult.  Believe it or not, the cruise sold out in less than 24 hours three years in a row.  You have to be online and ready to go when tickets go on sale....like flies on sh**!!

So...3 friends and I are going to share a cabin on the cruise.  All of us are crazy Blockheads!  We got a balcony cabin with an ocean view and we get preferred seating for all of the events.  Woo hoo!!

Jordan Knight...I am coming for you next May!  LOL!  Woo hoo!!

Check out my main squueze and me below!  HA!!  In case you don't know who Jordan Knight is...he's the hottie in the red shirt in the middle.  I'm the chick who is hanging on to him on his right!  HA!

My husband thinks I am a total nerd, but I'm just having a good time. I am reliving my young teen years!  Leave me alone!
